Rhiwbina, Cardiff
Full bathroom renovation
Leaking pipe joints, mould and poor ventilation in a dated bathroom
Louis, Zeus Renovations
NICEIC-registered electrician, with certificates issued, and a WaterSafe-registered plumber
Zeus Renovations recently undertook a bathroom renovation for homeowners in Rhiwbina. When we first visited the property, the issues were clear: the bathroom was outdated, there were damp issues, and a plumbing leak was causing problems that needed urgent attention.
Over three weeks, Zeus Renovations addressed these issues and uplifted the bathroom to a modern standard. We rebuilt the room as a modern shower room with herringbone tiling, built-in storage, and a much larger shower.
When we first visited the property to assess the bathroom, the homeowners’ pain points were clear. The bathroom was visually unappealing, with clear signs of damp and a suspected leak filtering down into downstairs rooms.
The homeowner’s brief was clear: a more modern look, more usable space, and a lasting fix for the leak and damp. They also no longer required a bath and wanted it removed to accommodate space for a larger shower unit.
Our immediate priority was to identify the leak source and determine what was causing the damp. After conducting a thorough investigation, we traced the leak to faulty pipe joints and the damp to inadequate bathroom ventilation. We then informed the customers of our findings and explained what they meant and how they would affect our process. We then built a remediation strategy for both issues into the updated renovation process.
We removed the old tiling and the partition wall that boxed off the shower, then took the walls back to the brickwork and stripped the ceiling.
With the room fully stripped to its foundations, the source of the leak was repaired, and a WaterSafe-registered plumber ran new pipework.
A NICEIC-registered electrician carried out the electrical work, including the new lighting. The customer received all certifications for the work upon completion.
With the electrics and plumbing sorted, we replastered the walls and ceiling to prepare the room for the new unit installations.
We fitted a larger shower tray with a black-framed glass enclosure, a wall-hung basin and a new toilet. We also added an electric mirror above the sink unit.
We added blue-grey herringbone tiles running halfway up the walls, black hexagonal tiles covering the floor, and large-format stone-effect tiles lining the shower.
The renovation transformed a damp, outdated bathroom into a modern, aesthetic, and functional space. The old bathroom has now been morphed into a modern shower room that makes better use of a compact space. The leak and damp issues no longer haunt the homeowners, as the rectifications we put in place were designed to be permanent.
