A wet room is one of the most stylish, practical ways to update a bathroom, giving you a level-access, open feel that’s easier to use and easier to keep clean.  At Zeus Renovations, we work closely with you to create a bespoke wet room built around your vision and how you’ll actually use the space.

Louis has 15 years of experience in the trades and coordinates a small, trusted team of subcontractors, including a NICEIC- or NAPIT-registered electrician and a WaterSafe-registered plumber, so you can rest assured that every trade working on your wet room is properly qualified for the job they’re doing.

Every wet room starts with a free consultation at your property, so we can look at your existing bathroom, check the floor construction and drainage, and talk honestly through what’s realistic before you commit to anything. There’s no obligation and no pressure to book on the day.

A Wet Room vs a Normal Bathroom

wet-room-bathroom-design

The main difference between a normal bathroom and a wet room comes down to the floor. In a standard bathroom, water is meant to stay inside the bath or shower tray. In a wet room, the whole floor is waterproofed and built with a slight fall towards a drain, so there’s no tray, no step and no lip to catch your foot on.

That means the drainage and waterproofing, sometimes called tanking, has to be right before any tiling goes down, because once the floor is covered, a mistake means ripping it all up again. A wet room also needs slip-resistant flooring and good extraction, and we fit ventilation as standard on every wet room, in line with Building Regulations for homes in Wales. Some wet rooms also need Building Regulations sign-off, for example where drainage is altered, and we’ll always tell you upfront if yours does.

Done properly, a wet room is easier to keep clean, easier to move around in, and gives a bathroom a simpler, more open feel. Done badly, it’s the bathroom job most likely to end in a leak, which is why we treat drainage and waterproofing as the most important stage of the whole job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you fit a wet room floor in an upstairs bathroom?

Yes, we can. We’ll check the floor structure, any movement in the joists, the drainage route and how much depth we’ve got to work with before recommending the right flooring and waterproofing system for your room.

Yes. We take up the old floor finish, check what’s underneath it, and fit a wet room former that creates the fall towards the drain. Then we waterproof it properly, sealing the joints, corners and any pipework, before tiling on top. If we find damaged boards or a subfloor that isn’t up to the job, we’ll talk you through what needs to be done before we carry on.

Yes, that’s exactly how we work. We take on the whole wet room installation. This arrangement means you don’t have to coordinate all the trades yourself.

A wet room needs more preparation than a standard shower tray installation. The floor has to be built with the right fall towards the drain, and the entire wet area needs to be properly waterproofed to protect what’s underneath.

Yes, an upstairs wet room is safe when the floor, drainage and waterproofing are done properly. We check the joists and subfloor for movement, build in the fall needed, and fit a waterproofing system underneath the finished floor. We pay particular attention to corners, joints, the drain and any pipework, since that’s where most wet room leaks start. Before we hand the room back to you, we carry out a drainage test as part of our sign-off, so any issues get picked up before we sign off.

It might put off some buyers, but it won’t automatically knock value off your home. Some families want a bath for young children, while others would rather have a bigger, easier shower. If resale is on your mind, we can talk about a layout that keeps the existing bath’s footprint, so it could be changed back later without major work.

No, it doesn’t. A wet room built with accessibility in mind can still look like a normal, modern bathroom. Things like foldaway seating, discreet grab rails, wall-hung furniture and well-placed controls can all be worked into the design without it looking institutional.

No, you don’t. Payment is due once the work’s finished, not before. Any payment terms specific to your job will be set out clearly in your written quote, so you know exactly what to expect before anything starts.

It depends on the room, including how much plumbing or structural work is needed, what materials are involved, and our availability at the time. We’ll look at all of this during the property visit and give you a realistic timeframe once we’ve seen the room and agreed the work.

Yes, that’s included in the quote. We’ll clear away the old bathroom suite, flooring, tiles, packaging and anything else from the installation. We leave the house spotless before we sign off.
